About Derek Warwick
I moved to Jersey from the UK in January1985 with my wife Rhonda. I have two daughters Marie 46 and Kerry 42 and 3 grandson, Harrison 12, Benjamin 11, Daniel 10 whom I adore.
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF RACING CAREER
- Started racing Karts age 12 for one year.
- Raced short track Oval racing at 15 winning the English, British, European and World Championships.
- Formula Ford in 1975 and 76 winning 33 races and the European Championship, finishing 2nd in three other main UK Championships.
- Formula 3 in 1977 and 78 winning one British Championship and 2nd in the other with 13 wins.
- Formula 2 in 1979 and 80 finishing 2nd in the European Championship.
- Started Formula 1 with Toleman in 1981, 82 and 83.
- Works Renault F1 team in 1984 and 85 with 4 podiums.
- Jaguar World sports car in 1986 finishing 2nd in the World Championship.
- Joined the Brabham BMW F1 team in 1986 as well as driving for Jaguar.
- Arrows F1 team in 1987, 88 and 89.
- Lotus F1 team in 1990.
- Jaguar Sports Car’s in 1991 with 4 wins but one disqualification finishing 2nd in the World Championship for the second time.
- Peugeot world sports car team in 1992 winning both Le Mans and the World Championship.
- Footwork F1 team in 1993 finishing 6th in the World Championship.
- Competed in 162 Grand Prix’s.
- British Touring Car Championship in 1995 and 98 with Alfa Romeo and Vauxhall.
Derek Warwick Honda Jersey was set up in 1989 and was the Flagship for my Dealership Group with 5 garages and a turnover of £50m employing 130 people.
I sold all my UK Garages in 2003, keeping the Flagship Honda Garage here in Jersey and have several property companies in the UK, building residential houses, plus a small commercial office block.
I built two of most spectacular homes here in Jersey, selling them both for around £20m.
I was on the main Board and President of the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) at Silverstone, I’m now a Vise President. I am also a FIA Formula 1 Drivers Steward at Grand Prix’s.
My hobbies are my three grandsons, Work, Motor Racing, Gym and all Sports.
I am very proud of Derek Warwick Honda Jersey where you will find me most days in my office by reception, so I am accessible to all our customers. I have the most amazing customers/colleagues and friends at work that have been so loyal to me, the core management team being here 25 to 35 years.
